Deb's Adventures
This morning started with coffee on the veranda overlooking the ocean. It is a wonderful way to begin the day. We all had a great night sleep which was desperately needed and we all seem to be adjusted to the time change. It is a 17 hour time difference from Denver to Fiji so I am amazed that we were able to adjust so quickly.
The restaurant in the resort is at the top of a little hill overlooking the tropical canapé with the ocean a little bit beyond that. It gives you the feeling of dining in a tree fort. The onsite chef is very good. The food here is very clean and simple and the portion sizes are perfect. I am glad that we like the menu and the food here because there really is nowhere else to go. Plus the wait staff are happily teaching us Fijian and answering all of our touristy questions about the local people and the culture.
After breakfast Lesley, Eric and I went for a little hike to the top of one of the hills just outside the resort. Ryan had a massage scheduled so did not join us on our walk. The views from the top were fantastic. We are on a little peninsula surrounded by a couple dozen other small islands so it makes for a great view. We would have liked to have gone a little further on our adventure this morning but it started getting ridiculously hot so we opted to head back and go to the pool. The pool has a waterfall and really comfy chairs and cabanas which makes it super relaxing.
After lunch we walked down the beach a couple hundred yards to a jetty that is surrounded by reef and went snorkeling. The coral garden was one of the best I have seen in a while especially for being right on the water's edge. There were not a lot of fish at this particular site but still a good way to spend a couple hours. There were a lot of starfish and they were bright blue, purple and maroon and I did see a baby eel and a puffer. The guy at the dive shop said to go back out at high tide tomorrow and it will be clearer and have more sea life. Today it was just about low tide when we went.
Wananavu is a very customer oriented resort. The staff here will do anything to make sure that you relax and enjoy your stay. Today when we came back from our hike and the security guard approached us and told us our rental car had a flat. This does not surprise me as our car is a bit of beater. It would have been retired from the fleet long ago in the US. Plus, the roads are mostly pot holes and/or gravel with a little pavement here and there. They offered to take the tire off the car for us and take it to town for repair and put it back on for us. So while we were relaxing at the pool and snorkeling they were taking care of the car. We love this place.
We are relaxed and on Island time and having a blast. So far this really is the trip of a lifetime. I promise I will post pictures as soon as we get to Oz.
