Deb's Adventures
Today was a day of waiting and confusion. Air Pacific never sent a rep to our hotel and it was very hard to get any good info about when exactly our plane was leaving. There were 300 other passengers from our plane all wondering around trying to figure it out. It's amazing how many rumors can get started when you have 300 people with nothing to do but speculate. Finally someone from the airline called the Hilton and told the front desk staff that we were to depart at 9:30pm. We then had to kill about 5 hours before we had to get ready to head back to the airport. We decided to go sit by the pool. It was very relaxing and actually quite tropical but by no means was it Fiji.
Air Pacific did not get our plane fixed and had to call Atlas for a charter. The gate agent has it that they paid $500,000 for the charter. They gave us all $300 vouchers and reimbursed us our lost expenses for the night we missed in Fiji. They also put us in the Hilton for a day and a half with all meals. I am pretty sure they did not make any money on our flight.
We arrived back at LAX at 6:30 and got our boarding passes, had dinner, made it through security and got to the get at around 8:30. We sat and we sat and we sat. Finally at around 10:15 we began boarding for our 9:30 flight. We eventually took off. We were so grateful to be in the air and on our way that we barely noticed when they ran out of beer and wine 2 hours into our 11 hour flight. We bribed the flight attendant to go steal a bottle of wine from first class which he reluctantly did just to shut us up.
I really expected an 11 hour flight to be pure torture but it really wasn't that bad. We watched a movie and ate dinner then slept a few hours and then watched another movie and ate breakfast and before we knew it we were landing in Nadi.
I am unable to post pictures until we get to Australia due to limits on our internet usage.
