A full day is spent traveling by ferry and exploring Victoria on Vancouver Island. It is the capital of BC. The ferry leaves Tsawwassen terminal to Swartz Bay on the island. We took the sky taxi and then the bus to the bay. It is a 95 minute trip. We almost had our first detour-accidently got on the wrong ferry but realized it just in time. The ticket collector radioed to the correct ferry to hold while we ran to the other side of the terminal, after retrieving our ticket. Once on Vancouver Island, we purchased a transit bus pass for all day for the island. We toured the amazing Butchart Gardens for 3 hours and then on to Victoria. We visited the Parliament building and the Empress hotel, including the famous High Tea dining room, before heading back. We also stopped at a convenience store to buy a phone card to use in Canada to save on cell service fees. The gardens are 55 acres of amazement! They topped Bellingrath gardens and all gardens we have seen in the states. The ferry ride went between several islands-beautiful scenery. The ferry trip alone, was worth the trip. Cool weather again-perfect!
