Today we woke up to a beautiful day-started out at 55 degrees and got up to 72. Sunshine and no humidity. We have lucked out with great weather since the trip began. We really only have 2 hours of semi-darkness-1:30-3:30 a.m. and it's like dusk but not dark. It is very hard to get use to it. Today we left Whitehorse at 8:30 am by bus for the 340 mile drive to Dawson City, heart of the Klondike gold rush. We made 3 stops, saw a grizzly bear and cub walking off the highway, marveled at a soaring eagle, watched a moose cross a stream and saw beavers building a dam. The first stop was Braeburn Lodge. After our late night walk yesterday, we slept in and got up at 10 am. We ate breakfast in our room-had the blueberry scones from Carcross, pineapple juice, plums and coffee/tea. The scones were humongous-more like a blueberry crumb cake so we split one and saved the raspberry for tomorrow. This is the sun setting at 11 pm. At 12:30 am the sun has set but there is still plenty of light. It was both strange and awesome.
