In a hostel for 2 nights. Welcome break to putting up tents. Bunkbeds, but comfy! Had a group night out on the town and ate some Zebra meat. Back on the road tomorrow. Our truck has dodgy suspension but is hopefully being fixed soon. Rickety old windows!

Up at 5 for a tour of a huge sand dune...could have been in the UAE! saw some ancient dried up lakes with 900 year old trees in. Drove further north and had apple pie in a cafe which produces 200kg of pie per day. Found out that Amy Winehouse had died from an Afrikans poster. Got to new campsite in off a remote road. Inspiring local guide took us off into the country and we saw zebra at sunset. Had a few drinks and a load of laughs around the campfire.

Great day, apart from the bum-numbing drive. Saw so much wildlife! Ostriches, springboks, baboons and oryx. Our Dutch guide Erik taught us to play a great card game called Mafia. Had a load of fun playing it during the long drive today. We were on cook duty tonight and successfully managed to serve up 30+ baked spuds, barbecue chicken and stir fry. Stars are amazing here. Saw some desert jackals on my way to the toilet block tonight!

Went canoeing on the Orange River, northern SA today. Stunning 3 hours on the water. Such incredible scenery! Traveled over the border into Namibia without any fuss. Saw the second largest canyon in the world at sunset tonight. Beautiful! Camping was bloody cold and we had to get up at 5am to prepare everyone's breakfast.

Began trip at 8am. Shared cab with the team from the hotel at 7am so early start! There are 24 people on the truck, so it's full. We each have a locker and there are fridges for drinks and snacks. Bloody rattly windows mind! Did a tour of the townships just outside Cape Town. A real eye opener. People live in such terribly basic conditions. The kids were amazing though and just wanted to play! Drove to picturesque campsite not a million miles north of Cape Town. ...
