September 13
A fair amount of rain today, so we looked for indoor activities. First, I did a workout at our Fitness Center. Then, after lunch, we visited the Denno Museum on the campus of Northwestern Michigan College, just a mile or so from our condo. This turns out to be a very interesting place with a lot of emphasis upon people from Arctic Canada called Inuit. Many of their artists come from an area called Cape Dorset. They employ a wide variety of techniques, ranging from stencil, etching, engraving, and lots more.
The rest of the afternoon was spent just relaxing at home. In the evening, we had a very enjoyable dinner at one of Traverse City’s great restaurants, Amical.

Following another run/walk, Rita and I met downtown and had breakfast. Later, we drove to the Boardman Nature Center just a few miles away. It’s a lovely place, and we’ll likely go back to hike one of the trails. Our next stop was a supermarket in order to plan for tonight’s dinner with our first (and probably only) house guests, Katherine and Lloyd Price.
Having arrived the night before in Grand Rapids, they drove up and arrived here around 5 PM.
We had a very enjoyable dinner together.

We started with a brunch at a great omelette restaurant, then showed Katherine and Lloyd the beach area along the coastline of the Grand Traverse Bay.
Later we moved on to the Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes, a truly stunning area. I found the uphill climb to be quite demanding.
From here we drove to the town of Leland and enjoyed an excellent dinner at the Riverside Inn. Then we walked over to a jazz concert featuring the Harry Goldston quintet; quite remarkable! Terrific day!

Tom McFarland I think the polar bear is the one on the left, David on the right.
Ili Nagy You guys have been busy! Happy further adventures!
Gary Eaton You are bringing back many memories. Did sleeping Bear dunes with the kids. Stayed at the Homestead two times and it fact, that is the reason we are in California. Over looking Lake Michigan seemed like it could be the Pacific and the hills in the background could have been mountains. It was warm and almost balmy and we said, why do we only do this one week a year? We moved to San Diego one year later! Give a big hug to the Prices from us.
