3rd June
We travelled by truck to Banos yesterday. On the way down we got to know some of our fellow "overlanders" and David was devistated to find that he IS the oldest by only 4 days, so retains the title of Abuelo (Grandad). We also saw large mushrooms of smoke billowing from Tunguahua (a very active volcano very close to Banos). We are staying two nights in a hotel near to the Spa, which Banos is famous (?) for. Today we went white water rafting on the Rio Negro (Black River), apparently a Grade 3. We had a fantastic time riding the rapids for over an hour. We had to practice capsizing and we flipped the boat on a very shallow rapid. We also rescued the guy kayaking with us when he capsized. We move on tomorrow for our first night camping and we have been warned about the mozzies! .
