25th August

Left Paraty for our final journey in the truck along the coast road to Rio. The Costa Verde is spectacular with views of sandy coves, crystal waters and small islands off the coast. As we approached Rio we had our first glimpse of Cristo Redentor (Christ the Redeemer) watching over the city. We went to Sugar Loaf by cable car as the sun was setting and enjoyed the spectacular sights of Rio at sunset and by night.

26th August

Our last full day in South America (or so we thought!). We took a city tour today which included a visit to the very modern cathedral; Sugar Loaf by day; the famous Copacabana beach; Carnival parade street and museum; the Maracana football stadium; and ended watching the sunset at Cristo Redentor.

27th August

Spent the morning on the beach soaking up the sun and watching the "beautiful" people - they're not so beautiful at that time of the morning! Unfortunately our bouyant mood was quickly dashed when we were told at check-in that our tickets were not valid for our flight! After 5 hours at the airport we returned to our hotel - better luck tomorrow we hope!

28th August

It's raining this morning, but hopefully we will be flying home tonight.
