Our Year of Adventure
We were meeting Jason, the Property Manager, at Crockers office in Manukau Road at 9:30am. After having lived north of the harbour bridge for so long, Manukau Road always seemed quite far away so we left in good time. From Grey Lynn, it only took a little over 10 minutes in the car. It's really bizarre but everything city side seems so close when you live south of the bridge, when it all seemed so far away before.
To kill some time, we parked up the car and went for a walk down the road to get a coffee. While ordering the coffee, David noticed a basket of brioche type doughnut – an unusual combination but one he couldn’t resist trying. It didn’t take long for him to finish it off, suggesting that it was pretty tasty.
Back in the Crockers offices, we waited in the reception while Jason prepared the paperwork for us. He then talked us through all the conditions - no picture hooks, not even the removable ones specially designed for rental accommodation; inspections every three months etc. It all sounded a bit anal but perhaps not all tenants are as clean and tidy as we are. We signed on the dotted line anyway, made a bank transfer from their office computer and were handed the keys to the apartment.
Woo Hoo! It’s hard to believe that we have an apartment after being back in New Zealand for less than 48 hours.
We drove back to Grey Lynn, picked up Daniel & Heidi and went to our new home for its first showing.
As good as it was to get the apartment; we decided that we would start to move in tomorrow. We needed to sort through our stuff at the Storage to find the essentials and that would be a task for tomorrow morning.
After some lunch, David helped Daniel take down his garden fence in the afternoon and took it to the dump. 160kg of wood in total made for a half decent workout in the heat of the afternoon sun.
We were being lazy in the evening and decided to get a takeaway for dinner, and we were shown where the Empress of India was down the road in Grey Lynn. It was a very reasonably priced place which served up extremely tasty curry. We’ll definitely be going back there now that we’re confirmed residents in the area.
