Our Year of Adventure
It came as a bit of a surprise but we slept through until 6:30am, perhaps the jet lag will hit in a day or two. It was still dark but a little warmer than last night, only minus seven today. Some porridge and strong 'kahvi' (coffee) got the day off to a good start and gave enough motivation to venture outside and test the warmth of the new down jackets. After a quick walk round the neighbourhood to check out the local ice rink and Maria's old primary school, it was back to the house for a belated family Christmas dinner of ham with all the trimmings. It was then back into the outdoors for a visit to the Kemi SnowCastle - a hotel, chapel, bar & restaurant made entirely from compacted snow and ice. The walls were intricately carved, this year, in the theme of 'the sea' - Atlantis, sharks, fish, seahorses and pirates to name a few. The slides built in the castle were great fun. David somehow managed to tumble down head over heels, landing in a heap at the bottom to the great amusement of everybody, if only there was a video - it would go viral for sure. The sun set at 4:45pm and it wasn't too long before the sleep took over the jet lagged bodies...
