Our Year of Adventure
Bolivia is one hour ahead of Peru but even given the time difference, we woke late. There was no breakfast to run off to, we had bought our own yesterday at the shops. Not that there was a great deal of choice though, we had some orange juice, bread rolls and a tub of dulce de leche (it's kind of like caramel flavoured condensed milk - sickly sweet but awesome).
It was slightly overcast but we were quite happy to read and enjoy the room with its great view. A couple of alpacas that had come round briefly yesterday to eat some grass and flowers came back again. David went out to see them in the garden and the little boy one took a shine on him. What appeared to be just friendly one minute, he was nuzzling David's legs, but the next he tried to mount him. There was a swift rebuff but that didn't stop the alpaca chasing David round the garden until he made it safely back in the house.
Late in the afternoon, we took a walk to the market to buy some sandwich stuff for tomorrow's walk on Isla del Sol. We half thought about cooking in the house but the choice wasn't so great and we relented to eating in La Cupula restaurant again. Service was really slow once again but the food was not bad, it's definitely not gourmet in Bolivia, that's for sure.
After dinner, we went back to the room and lit a fire. There was a small wood burner that was already stuffed full of wood & paper but it was a bit damp. Perhaps the high altitude and lack of oxygen didn't help, but David needed to start from scratch, ripping the logs into kindling to get it going. Within ten minutes, there was a roaring fire inside the burner and room became really toasty for the remainder of the evening.
