We'll travel anywhere to escape Brexit
Having visited Thailand so many times we thought we'd find it difficult to find exciting new experiences and adventures. How wrong we were; Myanmar, for now at least remains on the horizon.
We agree trekking in the remote hill tribes of Mae Hong Son was our highlight. Pordee was such a brilliant, knowledgeable guide and such a generous character. The villagers were so welcoming and interactive, communicating with hand gestures and smiles and teaching us a few words in their language. An experience we will never forget.
Moving on..... Koh Yao Noi was an eye opener for us - the island that tourism forgot. With it's main livelihood from farming and rubber tapping and with just a few guesthouses dotted around the island it was our perfect getaway. The locals so friendly and welcoming made it all the more memorable. The views from our bungalow were the cherry atop the huge cake.
After our R&R we arrived at our next stop, and having never visited a Thai national park we didn't know what to expect. The scenery, views, fauna and flora were amazing. Also, the temperature being a lot cooler allows for vineyards, and strawberry fields on the outskirts of the park which was such a surprise. Seeing the wildlife was fantastic.
Even with all the travelling -16 flights between us, an over night train journey, boat rides, numerous taxi/tube rides and last but not least, self-drive we loved the trip. We certainly have a taste for remote trekking and adventure. This trip has proved to us that with a little bit of planning and getting off the beaten track you can still find new, different and exciting experiences in Thailand.
WE JUST NEED ANOTHER HOLIDAY TO GET OVER IT!
We hope you all enjoyed reading the blog and would like to thank all of you who commented - it really means a lot to us having the interaction when so far away and out of our comfort zone. For those of you that didn't manage to comment please do on our next blog.
