So it was onto the Kruger National Park. We were staying at a lovely little Game Lodge called Ikley Game Lodge – where the owners and setting was actually fantastic. It was a 5am start for our game drive but it didn’t really matter as we had upgraded Chalets and were all content with a 9pm bedtime. No more camping - Megan and Meredith were so happy.
All of us were really excited to see what the Kruger had to offer, especially after the Chobe and Etosha had been so fantastic. Unfortunately estimations were pretty much TOO high, we saw virtually nothing! Reason being it is too lush in the park at present and although we were there for 9 hours in total – No cats at all! Damn only one off the big five! That was a Leopard – although we did see a kill in a tree.
The redeeming features about our trip were the driver Dion – very funny guy, who took a liking to upsetting Meredith! We also saw a Honey Badger, which is a nocturnal animal appearing in the daytime and a huge herd of Buffalo blocking the road.
A lot of the guys on the trip were really upset that Kruger had shown very little, but we actually are fortunate we saw everything we did elsewhere. Note to anyone visiting – spend around 3-4 days otherwise it’s very hard to see anything at this time of year!
During the evening we actually had a visit from a South African Rock Python too – which was the first snake that we had seen since arriving in Africa.
The tour is now finished and we said our emotional goodbye – esp. to Meredith who Megan is missing lots and we meet my uncle Geoff in Lydenburg.
