Hi from Cape Town.
We are going to entitle these parts by to do's and not to do's
Fly Emirates
The entertainment package was amasing - maybe its because we havent flown long distance for a while! Apart from crappy BA. The staff were frendly the meals were good and in the time spent on the plane Megan and I got through around 10 movies.
Brilliant airline - very long however especially with a stop over in Dubai - 6 hours from Gatwick, 9 hours to Cape Town with an hour layover.
First flight was traumatic as I was constantly being hit by the child sitting next to me, only about a year old if that - so I couldn't kick back.
The second however Megan found herself a new friend - one of the lighting engineers from Cinderella on Ice :-) which is touring South Africa.
Hot Hot Hot
38 degrees our second day - we have pictoral proof! We decided to walk around the city on our second day. It is really nice, lovely dutch/colonial architecture and we ended up walking down longstreet to the water front. Very nice again down there - although much more modern than the rest of the city. We visited the Aquarium saw the penguins feeding and all sorts of South African aquatic animals. Factor 50 suncream for the two whities... heehee. Danny and Megan are tanning nicely - heading slightly red :-) Megan will fill you all in before we head out of Cape Town - shes asleep right now.
Table Mountain
On the first drive into the city from the airport we could see the amasing mountains in the distance, and our hostel is just below Table mountain - its an gorgeous view. The first night it had its table cloth on, the white clouds waterfalling over its flat summit - its quite a sight. Day 2 we actually went up and had a hike around - stunning views from the summit. And the Cable Car ride was pretty impressive too. Note to the wise though - dont walk back - LONG walk. Thanks to Danny we ended up in the city around dark so being sensible cabbed it back to the hostel.
Nandos?
So far we have been pretty lucky with food, we had a all you can eat BBQ in the hostel last night, met some Aussies and crap loads of Germans - they are everywhere! Before that we went to the African Cafe where Megan got her tribal markings done - cool pics. We ate a full course of African Cusine - all in little pots so you can decide what you like and order more (kindof like Tapas) Danny again got in trouble as the lady couldn't understand his accent - so a beer - he got a bottle of red whine and Cup of Tea - He got a Cafe Latte. Was well worth the experience alone when he tried to describe Beer to an African Lady. There was Tribal dancing, singing - and the food was very tasty. A big Must! We also have found 3 Nandos in the city - but Megan has put her foot down :-) heehee.
Jaws
This was the supreme highlight - Megan and I had heard so many bad things about this from Tripadvisor about Cage Diving. But all 3 of us have been left speechless by the morning out. In total we saw 8 Great White Sharks, the first circuled the boat as soon as we set anchor. It is completely indescribable... Megan and I got in the cage just as a 3 metre shark approached! Danny was in there while 3 were circling at the same time. The really good thing too was we went with a Marine Biologist too. He was very helpful with loads of information and a good briefing. I even bought the DVD because we saw a few breaches. The company were Marine Dynamics - and after 2-3 days of Megan looking into the Shark Dive - we definately made the right choice on tour companies - absolutely brilliant! You have never seen a Great White until you do something like this... The company driver also took us Whale Watching on the way back and we caught site of around 6-8 whales.
The Screaming German
So last but not least last night we were packing for the Cage Dive - 4.45am wake up time. And one of the guys in our room at 10pm sat up in his bed and streated screamming with his facemask on! All in German so we had no idea what it was about. But freaky as I tell you... Megan and I will be telling that one for ages - maybe a move of rooms is required :-) Paul arrives tonight anyhow and we are heading to the Cape of good Hope and Bolder Beach.
