So we have been in Johannesburg for 3 days now, Geoff drove us here from Finsbury on Christmas Eve, it’s been absolutely lovely. Carol and the dogs Thandi and Monty were here to greet us. The dogs being a young Bull Terrier about 8 months old and a huge Newfoundland pedigree cross breed (about the size of Megan).
We have had lots of fun with these two – Thandi took a special liking to Danny.
We spent Christmas Eve at a friend of Geoff and Carols, where we had the most spectacular meal, fully set starters, main and desert – what a treat! Christmas Day we stayed at Geoff’s – enjoyed the pool and had a number of their friends over. We were on our first beer by 10am, and Megan her first wine by 11! Good going hey… Did you hear that everyone in the UK - 30 degrees and a pool on Christmas day – heehee!
Geoff’s next door neighbours Jackie, George and Sam came over who I have met before – which was nice. I get on with Sam very well; as does Megan and as the drink flowed the day seemed to fly by. Carol is also a superb cook – so this meal was no letdown! And I didn’t have to leave my brussel sprouts either, it was like a buffet – we went and got what we liked… Yum. I have to say that I felt so huge and slightly tipsy by the end of the meal that a jump in the pool was definitely necessary.
Danny was nearly as smashed as Geoff and George by the end of the Jaeger session! But I have to personally thank them both for their hospitality and fantastic food; it’s so lovely to have Christmas with family.
George also agreed under the huge influence of alcohol to take us on a sight seeing the next day. So it was off to Soweto, Nelson Mandela’s house and the Apartheid Museum, very interesting and eye opening. The museum is a definite must if you are visiting.
So it’s off back to the UK where I will try to upload some of the 2000 photos we have.
Happy Christmas and have a great New Year – New York here we come.
