So after a few days in Cape Town we decided to venture out alone and hire a car for a couple of days. A little Kia was given to us - which after an hour and on a toll road decided to break down (although where it stopped on a mountain overlooking a bay could have been worse!) After an hour the car was replaced and we were back off towards Cape Point.
Heading down the coast visiting Boulder Beach with a group of African Penguins who were very cute but extremely uninterested in humans, even going to relax on the other beach where people can relax and swim rather than the designated protected area just for them but well worth going to see.
Cape Point was very pretty along with the Cape of Good hope which we thought was where the Indian and Atlantic ocean met (apparently according to the Marine biologist on the shark dive its not!) However we were all far more excited with the local wildlife - Danny and I were on lookout duties and managed to spot a lot of Baboons, Ostrich and a lone Antelope on a beach nearly - very odd!
Second day with the car was far more interesting, Dave had decided months agao he wanted to do the worlds largest bungee jump (Danny, Paul and I decided to go along for the ride). We were all told it was a 4 hour drive from Cape Town - which turned into an epic road trip of nearly 14 hours there and back and over 1000km. We did see most of the Garden Route in a day which is pretty impressive and of course seeing Dave jump off the highest bridge in Africa and some pretty amazing views.
Today we visited Robben Island where Nelson Mandela along with a lot of other high profile African politicians were held. A very errie place especially being taken around by an ex-prisioner who obviously was extremely knolegable and gave us a full history of the island not just the prison itself which was very interesting. Follwed by a huge seafood lunch on the waterfront which was yummy!
Dave and I have also upgrded rooms for the last night before preparing to go off on our 25 day tour up to Namibia, Botswana and Zambia and it is amazing well worth a bit of luxury before camping and getting away from the Germans!)
Lots of Love
Megan, Dave and Danny xxx
