So we have arrived back from the Delta safe and sound and it was a bit 50/50 to be honest - if we have to be totally honest it wasn't our favorite place, and think it's a bit overrated! After a 3 hour bus ride, a 2 hour polling boat ride in hollowed out sausage trees - the highlight of the 2 days. Very very tranquil, a kind of healing feeling while being well polled to an island in the middle of nowhere. The reads either side would give the impression of a huge swamp but in reality it was more like a flowing spring. On arrival it was tents up - no facilities and a walk in the bush for a couple of hours - the trouble this kind of year is the heat - it's so humid and well into the late 30's. Walking through the bush was pretty good, but long winded - we ended up at a Hippo Pool where we saw them playing and this was sensational - no more than 4 metres away they fought one another… Our tour guide was called Heaven and we got to try bush cucumbers and other wild roots - but honestly it was too long and too hot!
The night was full of wildlife sounds which were pretty cool - and we were told a Hyena visited during the night - and the hippo sounds were incredible.
The next morning a 5am game walk got us near to giraffes and Zebra, but Megan had the right idea and stayed in bed… The polling back again was heavenly but the bus ride was so longwinded it really did spoil it for me… I was too hot, too tired and a little grumpy - of course no where near as grumpy ad Meredith who was so close to breaking point it was funny!
On arrival back we headed to the airport for a scenic flight - where we saw the delta from the air - the best way. However my fear of small planes didn't help but Tidey was very happy. We saw Hippos running, herd of antelope, zebra, elephants and many other animals… 4 5 am starts in a row is defiantly taking its toll - onto Chobe tomorrow at 5am surprisingly - but we are both really looking forward to it.
So Tired!
