Hello to you all.
So we hit the Chobe National Park after the Delta and stayed in a lovely camp on the border between Zambia and Botswana (right nest to a hippo river). Dan was very happy as it had a pool - I swear he was a fish in a previous life...
Anyhow we had a 5am (yes 5am again!) game drive into the Chobe. After Etosha we were very excited to see more wildlife and it really didn’t disappoint.
Before we even got the entrance we encounter a pack of Hyenas in the road and got really quite close to them. On entry we had to take our passports and it was very formal. Chobe is green and lush. The drive went down to the river and across into the forest. It was much more attractive than Etosha. And the wildlife was abundant - we first saw a huge amount of birdlife - stalks, eagles and all kinds of raptors. Absolutely phenomenal for birdlife but also we stumbled across a mass of warthogs, baboons (including babies) giraffes and monogeneses. Megan’s fav were the monogeneses as they stood up on their forelegs like Meer cats - so cute!
It is simply stunning in the riverbed; you can view all sorts of game. We also drove into the woodland and came across a mass of elephants with babies... stunning to watch them eat and generally eat!
The drive was also in smaller game viewing vehicles which made it easier than Etosha in the Acacia truck - made it much easier to view everything. We were nearly in touching distance of the elephants and warthogs. Finale was the sighting of the male lion from distance - not as close as Etosha but simply awe-inspiring.
Anyhow we were enamoured by Chobe and personally I loved every minute of the drive.
In the evening we went back into the park via the river and we spotted so many Hippos and Crocs. At one point we got so close we were actually a little apprehensive about our safety! Great pictures!
Off to Livingstone tomorrow - Vic Falls here we come!
p.s. Megan loves tents - no seriously I think the possibility of us ever camping again is very limited :-)
