We had decided to break the Great Ocean Road into two parts so that we did not do a really long day and had time to stop and enjoy the views . . . ah! And what views. In our typical way we took to the back roads from Halls Gap. All was going well, very quiet roads with no other cars in sight then I heard a yelp from Trish only to look in the mirror and see a roo pass just in front of her. After that there were another couple of wallabies on the side of the road but very little traffic.
First stop on the Great Ocean road was the Bay of Isles. The beautiful colours of the water and the cliffs, shrouded in the ocean mist from the breaking waves. After that how could things get better? This was an understatement, the roads became twistier and a motorcyclist dream. As we approached London bridge I was singing "London Bridge is falling down . . . . . " all the time forgetting that a few years ago one arch of the London Bridge had fallen down trapping people out there for several hours until they were rescued by helicopter.
Then came the famous Twelve Apostles, that famous that there was a massive car park full of cars and rows of tour buses. People everywhere of all nationalities. The boardwalks were wall to wall people and couples posing for photos. You had to wait your time to get near the edge for a look.
What we hadn't counted on was a stop in beautiful little Port Campbell then best of all the roads through the Otway Ranges to Apollo Bay. The roads through there were a motorcyclist dream.
We took a cabin in Apollo Bay as we only wanted the one night so that we could get back on the road early the next morning to do the rest of the Great Ocean Road.
