......the Houseboat... Allepey
Crazy Brown Stig (Aju) picked up where he left off as he drove us to Allepey, a small village where our houseboat was docked.
Our 3 man crew consisting of a captain, a driver and the all important chef. The houseboat had a kitchen a the rear, a small dining room and an en-suite bedroom with one double bed... I would have to be careful not to roll over in the night and give Dave a 'Mikee cuddle' :-0 At the front was an open seated veranda where we sat for most of the day and night.
The weather was not great - very warm and humid, but overcast with the odd heavy shower. Despite this, the trip was incredibly peaceful as we wormed our way through the Kerelan palm fringed canals.
We ate probably the best food of the trip - freshly caught fried fish and huge tiger prawns caught that morning! Today was the 1st of the month, and here in Kerela this was a 'dry day'. All that said, our trusty captain moored up and managed to buy us a few drinks of the alcohol variety (....yep, Kingfisher!) from a small shack on the black market.
Two more nights left... final stop Kovalam on the south west coast.
