.......family time in Ahmedabad
Today we drove to Ahmedabad, birth place of a certain Mahatma Ghandi to meet my mums sister and cousins, Anna and Lucy for the very first time. I was feeling anxious.
Our driver Vinod aka, brown stig, drove us through the lush, hilly Rajasthan terrain for 5 hours - so very different to the dusty streets of Delhi and Jaipur. However, this changed quickly on entering the city. We were soon surrounded by streets where immense poverty was clear to see - families living on the roadside in make shift homes made from plastic sheets. I must cast my mind back to this image next time I'm wingeing back in the UK.
After a goodbye hug and lift from Vinod, and a quick turnaround in the hotel, and we were on our way to visit our family. We eventually found their home amongst the small residential back streets of the city. We sat exchanging stories and eating Biriyani and Chicken Lollipops!...to the ever increasing background noise of the Diwali fire crackers. This will be 4 hours that I will remember for years to come.
