The weather forecast suggested today was to be the start of a spell of brighter weather so walking was planned. As it was the weekend we decided to head west around the coast to avoid the relatively popular Acadia area. Camden Hill State Park looked promising with lots of trails and hills to explore. Seen outside a church en route: "Avoid the Christmas rush, come to church now".
We will keep this brief as there is little of note in our walking trips around the Maine coast, not even a lighthouse to report today. From the car park we walked up 780 feet Mount Battle whilst almost everyone else on the top seemed to have driven up the road to a viewing tower! This spot proved not to be an escape from the crowds but did offer panoramic views of Camden harbour and the coastal islands further east.
Onward and upward, well actually up and down a fair bit as we muddled through the trails that took us up to Ocean Lookout and the 1385 feet summit of Mount Megunticook, the highest point in the Park. We chose a less steep descent but still had work to do fighting our way round newly fallen trees that must have come down in Wednesday nights stormy weather. We logged the issue with the Rangers who was glad of the report as they'd not been aware of this recently created obstacle - our good deed for the day.
Driving back towards Bucksport on route to Castine we rounded a bend to find the magnificent Penobscot Narrows Bridge bathed in evening light, quite a sight and Jill took photos to prove it.

Elaine Do you know how far you will have walked so far? Your description makes it feel such a huge country. Keep walking!
Dave Murray Hi Elaine, we haven't got an accurate record of distances walked but I estimate at least 250 miles.
