As expected the sun continued so today we headed east to Deer Isle. The local Heritage Trust have done a great job establishing and maintaining a number of short trails dotted across the island and the local Chamber of Commerce run an Information Office just across the bridge as you reach the island. Local advice was Stinson Point and Barred Island was a picturesque walk and the low lunch-time tide meant we could walk out to Barred Island across a sand spit. Although we didn't quite have the place to ourselves it was beautiful and tranquil as we ate lunch, watched the dragonflies and scrambled our way round the island's rocky edges. We even decided to sit on the beach in the sun and relax for half an hour - lovely!
Then we were off through Stonington and across Deer Isle down the aptly named Sunshine Road to a second coast-hugging trail. An hour was enough for a couple of loops and then we headed back to Castine. The night before the sunset had been spectacular but we'd only seen it driving back and as this time we were earlier Dave headed over to Dice Head Lighthouse to try to capture another spectacular sunset. Sadly clouds on the horizon meant there was no repeat this evening so Dave had to settle for a few atmospheric shots of the lighthouse and evening sky.
