Sadly Friday was our leaving day but not before a pancake breakfast. New American guests had arrived with various dietary requirements which Laura met by making normal, vegan and gluten-free pancakes! Laura asked for every bit of detail about how the guests preferred their gluten-free pancakes made only for the guest to decide she didn't want any. We exchanged knowing glances with Laura: hard to believe anyone could be so thoughtless having seen the effort and trouble Laura went to!
Packing up at the cabin Jill was amazed to see a male rufous hummingbird at the cabin window, hovering and peering in at her! Our final wildlife experience here was a squirrel under the car that Laura said necessitated checking the brake cables!
We then set off on a the long drive to Canmore stopping to photograph mountains and glaciers along the way. Bow Glacier and Crowfoot Mountain were highlights that we recognised from the map. Such stunning, never-ending scenery! Even after two hours driving down dirt tracks and the highway to Jasper there were still 300km to Canmore. As we approached Banff National Park we slowed down for the check point and saw a black bear crossing the road. As it moved into the roadside scrub Jill managed to snap the odd photo. Seven hours after leaving the wilderness we arrived in Canmore and we were warmly welcomed by Ruth to her condo. After a rapid unpacking we went in hunt of curry - successfully you'll be pleased to know.
