First 2 days of Thailand then...BANGKOK!!!! Mental is one word to describe it!! As we got into the taxi the first day we genuinely were taken aback by the chaos on the roads, pavements, stalls an all of the travellers. Where we stayed in khao San road was the hub of mentalness as we were surrounded by bust Thais and backpackers. The first thing that hit is was the air!!! The smell is something I've never come across!! The air is thick with pollution, bad drainage, smoke yet in the background is the smell of constant street food underlying it all. Add the noise and the pace of life it makes London look lame!!The first night we walked around the surrounding areas for food and to soak up the energy. After such a long flight it hit us pretty quickly!! Pad Thai on the street is mandatory in Bangkok so helped ourselves to it for 30 baht (40-45 baht to a pound). That night the noise from the street woke us up continuously as our jet lag kicked in, bangkok doesn't sleep till 6!!!The next day we woke bright an early for a full day in Bangkok! Breakfast involved spag Bol, egg, toast, spam, sweet sausage, coffee and fruit!! Buffet so take what we can get!!We then set off in tuk tuk to the tourist information where we bought a pack deal to get us from Bangkok, sukothai, Chiang Mai, treks, elephants and rafting, transport up and down to the south of Thailand (ko Tao) and accommodation. At the time we took it for roughly £200 however on hindsight we could have done this ourselves for far cheaper!! It did get us up and running though so we learn! The rest of the first full day we spent either in tuk tuks getting conned into going into suit shops or jewellery stores so we sacked off the tuk tuks and went for a boat tour round bangkok. We negotiated down from 1200 baht each to 500 baht each. Best part of the day as we had out own long boat down the chaopraya and the canals. After this we visited some wats or temples. It's funny though as we wouldn't visit churches back home yet we visit Buddhist temples over here!! That night we prepped the bags for the following day and set out for dinner. Again for less than a pound we had a sit down meal on the street! This time having pad new ko with chicken and Sam had chilli basil and crispy pork. Both were filling and delicious! Especially for the price!!! Both came with rice too!! Followed this with a crispy pork kebab and coconut ice cream served in a coconut! During the night I also kept being asked to see ping pong show...!!!! If you don't know what it is I will leave that there!! We didn't go. Next instalment will consist of first bit of travelling to sukothai and the old town. Peace out x
