Today we started by visiting a restored clan house which is tucked away through a narrow lane (also being restored) it's actual location is cannon square given that name due to 10 days of rioting only to be stopped by the British firing a cannon, hence the name. The clan house was really elaborate and cost millions to restore. (We have photos)
Today we covered at least 100km with our tour guide driving us around the island to places we would have needed to get taxis/bus.So today we went to lots of places with local food stops along the way. We had to drive through a huge industrial area as well which was enlighting. It was lots of IT type of companies.
We visited a snake temple, where duou could have your photo taken, not us though! Very touristy and we are sure some of the snakes may have been fakes.
Then we went off to a typical Malay village and fishing village, there were a lot of cats about the fish market area. We also saw a very small shrimp paste manufacturer whose shrimp paste was being dried in the sun beside the road. You wouldn't be allowed to do that in NZ.
Also went to a tropical fruit farm, spice garden(wrong time of the year to visit but still a very nice walk) and then finished off the day with a local dessert. It consisted of coconut milk, palm sugar ,small red beans, and green noodles, called 'ice kacang'. Tasted a bit like iced coffee at first then we decided it tasted more like weet-bix with brown sugar and milk
Later on we wondered out and had some Indian food, roti cani and roti something else, my first go at ordering food.
Tomorrow we are going to finish exploring this heritage area we are in.
Ps yesterday we went to lots of temples and restored old mansions as well as local food. It was very interesting but by the end we had seen enough temples and taken our shoes on/off/on/off....we also went to restored Fort Cornwallis.
Suffolk House was extremely elegant and would be gorgeous for a wedding if you could afford it.
