Whitsundays Boat Trip
Our boat called Tongarra was a bright red catamaran which could take 22 passengers and 3 crew, it was a fun boat with perfect space for sunbathing. Our first night involved a lovely bbq fish dinner. Everyone was in bed pretty early to ensure they were ready for a fun filled day of snorkeling and visiting the white sand beaches. We had an early rise before sailing to Whitehaven beach, which is the most famous of the Whitsunday Island beaches, its sand which feels more like flour than sand is supposedly some of the finest in the world, and it is that way due to it extremely high silicon content (are you impressed that i learn't something). Apparently it can be used to polish up grubby jewellery. We then had a lazy few hours kicking back on the beach, whilst we were swimming we saw lots of stingrays swimming around our feet, pretty cool.
The afternoon took us to a snorkeling site that can not normally be used, but due to really light winds we were able to go, the crew said that we were really lucky. Snorkelling here gave us our first taste of what the Great Barrier Reef would be like. There were so many fish, and the brightest coral everywhere we looked, but then to top it off we were lucky enough to see a massive turtle swimming along, it was truly amazing. That afternoon we kicked back on the boat with a few beers, no wind, and pure sunshine, what more could we of asked for.
There were a real mixture of nationalities on he boat from German to Taiwanese, Canadian and Irish. Many beers were drank, many games were played and laying on deck looking up at the stars was pretty damn cool way to go to sleep. We woke early so that we could snorkel again, but unfortunately the visibility was not a great so it soon turned into a fun swim with us jumping of the boat.
After this we had a leisurely cruise back to port, and started to plan our next stop, which is...... Magnetic Island (if you want to check it out)
