After arriving at Franz Josef (FJ) glacier the night before in brilliant sunshine we woke to cloud and rain. (The rain on the van roof sounds odd - like the tinkling of lots of aluminium can pulls.) Decided to check out the different trips for the glacier and planned to go tomorrow and hope the weather would be better. Bit of a chance as FJ gets 2 out of 3 rainy days, up to 250+ per year!
We found an amazing Cafe - Full of Beans - that has free Wifi, such excitement and amazing food and coffee as well lol. We drove out to Fox Glacier village and then walked out to view it. It was cool and rained but we were able to get to within 200m of the foot of the glacier and it was amazing, even in the rain and cloud. It's possible to do a guided walk here, but we've opted for FJ. After an hour or so we drove to Lake Murchison which has amazing mirror images of Mt Tasman and Mt Cook in its still waters. Not today mate! Great coffee and gift shop though, and a nice walk through the rain forest to admire that still water. Let's hope for a great day tomorrow!
