Today we escaped the dullness of Orange Walk for an excellent river/jungle tour to the runis in lamani.
We turned up nice an early and met our tour-mates (an italian guy and German girl) and then jumped in a little speed boat. Thus commenced a 1.5hr speed boat trip covering around 27miles - We were racing along, leaning over when we went around corners and water going everywhere.
We went past lush jungle, lots of birds, bats and howler monkeys hanging out in the trees.
Then we arrived at our destination, walked into the jungle and it was quite amazing. was like being in Jurrasic park. The jungle canopy was massive, was amazingly hot (just standing still you are dripping with sweat) and in the background you can hear the very loud and scary roaaaaaaaar of the howler monkeys.
If you didn't know what they were you would think dinosaurs were hiding in the forest. So we explored with our super friendly guide called Wilfred and climbed up very tall maya ruins and scrabled over various other ancient buildings.
After a few hours we had some amazing food that Wilfred brought along, then jumped on the boat for a white knuckle ride back to Orange Walk. Even though the boat was flying all over the place, Emily managed to fall asleep!
