So the bus… what can I say about the bus. Rodovias de Venezuela was the company that owned it and it was the most uncomfortable ride of my life. Our tour company, had forgotten to mention that these busses are kept at sub freezing temperatures throughout the journeys, to keep people from sweating, therefore negating the concept of cleaning the bus.
Up roll Megan and I in T-shirts and shorts, having left jumpers and jeans in Tobago, it was so cold. And by cold I mean freezing! We obviously missed a well renowned trick here, because other people had blankets, long trousers, footwear etc…
We had taken the bus because we wanted to see some of the scenery of Venezuela, but because of the aircon, the windows were completely steamed up.. great idea tour company - thanks!
You see if I was travelling, I wouldn't have been so annoyed, as I would've had a jumper or trousers in my rucksack, but because we were holidaying and we told what to bring, jumpers just didn't seem necessary!
Adding another little bit of mystery to the trip was the fact that we thought the bus would take us directly to Ciudad Bolivar, as the tour company had told us… You know that sound from Family Fortunes would be very apparent here! Around 4 stops not marked or announced at all. We had no idea where we were going… Another little problem we had with this bus was the music, blaring Spanish Music (not the worst) followed by a dance mix of Wigfield, Ntrance, SNAP, Bobby Brown… Matt you would've loved it! But so loud that upon putting our iPods on we couldn't hear the music being directly played into our ears… just what the bus was playing… and this continued for 11 hours.
Oh yes and to add the final kick in the balls, the bus broke down in the middle of nowhere, and obviously no-one spoke a word of English. By sheer luck we got on another bus and ended up in the right place. It was the nightmare I always wanted! LWelcome to Ciudad Bolivar, it was 11pm instead of 8pm, we hadn't eaten for around 12 hours, it was pissing it down with rain and the lodge we were taken to had a leaky roof! Genius day - probably the worst day on record. I am not a happy bunny!!!!!!!!!!!
