Up early after a long unsuccessful, but comical night at the train tracks! We headed to the Flinders Range. This is a mountain range where tectonic plates have pushed the ground up and apart from one another, forming a crater surrounded by mountains. Absolutely gorgeous view from the top, which I nearly died climbing, the heat got up-to 39 degrees and it was only 10 am! It was worth it though, Andre, Tanja, Lior, Marie and I made it up to the summit and the view was sensational! Closely followed by Adam and Lucy, unfortunately pictures do not do it justice, as its better from the air.
The Group I am traveling with is really cool, and I think the next 6 days are going to be awesome. The hike down was easier, but the heat really started to hurt…
We met up and had a BBQ lunch, my sort of trip this one! And then headed to see Aboriginal Rock Art, again in the middle of nowhere! It’s fascinating, how these people survived out here in the heat. The Art is merely finger paintings and animals, but it was there only way of teaching, except stories. Mum you would really find this interesting.
So from here, the heat had reached 43 degrees so it was back to the ranch, for a swim and a chilled out night. Apart from the fact I got attacked by a White Tail Spider, a flesh eating spider. You have never seen a grown man scream like a baby until this moment! Horrible little creature… didn’t bite me though, luckily!
Another early start tomorrow, we head to Coober Pedy, which Paul told me is really a fun place!
