Bula Bula - Bula is a cool word it mcan mean anything in Fijian. Its literal translation I believe is WELCOME, but people use it in song, thank yous, ordering food! Its a wicked little saying.
Anyhow I left Nadi and caught a open windowed bus to the harbour, who did I meet on this bus, none other than Tom - the guy I had dinner with last night. Hes a really chatting, upbeat kindof guy, so we got on like a house on fire. I had bought a Bula pass (you see theres that word again!) which got me 7 days island hoping, i can come and go as i please - good call!
I thought I'd start at the top of the Yasawa Islands and work my way down, so first stop was Nanuya Lailai, home of the famous Blue Lagoon. (some movie with Brooke Shields in it, I don't have a clue either, I am only 25...). Anyhow the mere thought of a lagoon inspired me, so it was number one choice. $ hours of cruising the Fijian Islands was amazing, they all look so beautiful, Green rain forest stretching through them, with secluded resorts surrounded by beautiful beaches and crystal blue shining water - this looks like paradise!. I choose a resort that was covered by my accommodation pass called Sunrise. Tom was heading to Nacula, so we said our goodbyes. Heading to this Island were just me and an Irish guy called James.
I beach was quite wavey but the ocean was patchy with green, and blue reefs all over the area, not even the Great Barrier reef looked as idealic as this. We were greeted with lunch and soon after dived into the sea, encountering nothing but Jellyfish that frightened both of us our of the water. So lets try the lagoon, shall we? A 5 minute walk we were told, 5 minutes my arse! more like 30, over to the otherside of the island, in flipflops! The hike was very pretty, and once we arrived the we didn't see a lagoon! I thought a lagoon had to be incased by land, this one was just another beach. A gorgeous beach at that. Oh well, we went out snorkeling, and oh my god!
The reef here is fantastic, like nothing i have ever seen before, there were fish everywhere, and not just fish. James and I encountered Nemos everywhere,Turtles, Sea Snakes (the ones that bite you and you have 9 minutes to live), billions of tropical fish including puffers. As i swam out toward the edge the site I have been looking forward to forever happened - the music came into my ears da da. dadadada. dadadadada er er er er! If you didn't get that, a shark appeared! How awesome, it was about 3 and a half foot long and swam so elegantly accross the edge of the reef! What a spot hey!
This Island really was incredible for snorkeling! I have snorkeled the Great Barrier Reef, and the Western Reefs in Australia ad this was by far the best place.
James and I had a wicked dinner, just happened to be fish caught locally (it was so scrummy), and had a quite night underneath our Mossie nets.
