Day 24 Tuesday 1 August
Interesting night with the bats!! My god they stink! And noisy!!
.
Left Nitmiluk National Park. Got more fresh water 2X 10 litres as we are drinking about 20 litres between us a day.
.
"A big country, a lot bigger than we had any perception of!"
.
The termite hills are getting bigger and bigger
.
JD- Went into Edith falls on Boatsys recommendation. It was beautiful! A couple of swims and lunch on the grass then back in the van, north bound. Quick stop in Pine Creek for diesel took the RH turn (my right not Nicole's right!)
on to Kakadu Hwy headed toward Cooina Lodge and CV park which was full when we arrived so we continued the 50km's on to Jabiru. Jabiru was constructed in 1982 to house the staff who work in the nearby Ranger uranium mine. We found a quiet, private spot in the Kakadu CV park which has been a rarity in our experience of CV parks so far. BBQ dinner, which was met with little resistance as most of us have come to terms with our budgetary restraints.
.
We had tried to call Cooinda camp ground as wikicamps suggests to book but they didn't answer their phones for 2 days so we called from the road they say they only had unpowered sites which u can't book so just turn up....which we did but it was 5.30 and they were fully booked so another 50kms to the next available camp ground, Kakadu Lodge (so much for being set up camp by 4!) which was actually a blessing in disguise as it was huge, grassy, quiet and only one other van in site as we had spent a bit of time readjusting the position of the van for some much appreciated privacy! Grace said the place reminded her of "Marlbrook", the pool was fantastic and the kids disappeared till tea was ready.
We were much amused by the fact that even at 6.30 at night it was 26degrees warmer than it was at home!
Dingos wandering round the park after dark. JD, Grace and I watched 'Out of Africa'

Marguerite Love James's posts as well. I think he has the same opinion of Nicole's navigation skills as Pete has of Marguerite's...
