Blog Day 34 Thurs 9th June 2011
First of a huge Happy Birthday to Trish’s Mum & Dad, hope you both have a wonderful day & don’t work too hard though where you are that’s nion impossible. We miss you loads & love you lots.
So today we had the day in Durban, now we’ve heard so many horror stories about here being an unsafe place, you can’t walk around safely & you have to be on the ball all the time, that we decided to spend less time here, as it turns out though Durban is probably as safe as London but we are to learn lessons along the way so let this be one ‘don’t listen to other people, take notes but find out things for yourself, what one person may not enjoy someone else will love’.
So we planned to visit Gateway Shopping Centre, (Dan was still going on about getting a Stormers shirt so we really need to go). We have to get the airport shuttle which is R50 per person per way, all in all just under £20, on the way the bus gets crammed with people & luggage, thankfully it doesn’t come to people sitting on each other laps especially as we are the youngest on the entire bus by about 50 years old! Somehow a bag finds its way of the shelf & onto Trish’s head but as before with these incidents no damage done so all is well! Gateway turns out to be over an hour away but it gives us a good view of the city & we realize there is actually quite a lot to do here. Once we reach Gateway we start walking around, it is hu--ge, we have some lunch, do some window shopping & then hit the cinema. We watched a film called Beastly-very good film. The reason mostly for the trip to the cinema is because Trish has fallen in love with the popcorn, they do a butter salt flavor & it is sooo good! Once out of the cinema we find Dan his Stormers shirt & he finds a zip hoodie that he likes, he needs another one because along with Shampoo, Shower gel, Razors & Shaving gel he also misplaced he’s jumper! Silly!
We get the shuttle to come pick us up & once back at the hostel meet a guy called Jamie, he’s a nice guy although a bit full of himself & a know it all but he is travelling alone so I guess that’s what it does to you! He does however help us out with some Thailand tips & routes which makes him bearable!
Anderson & Marc have gone on with their travels so we think we have the room to ourselves until they put a guy who is very old, doesn’t speak a word of anything let alone English & stinks of piss & alcohol…NICE!! We we try to complain but apparently there are no other free beds despite the fact that there’s no one else in the Damn hostel, the staff really are lacking in any sense, it turns out not to be so bad once Trish sprays the room from all angles when he pops out & I guess one good thing was he didn’t snore!
