Blog Day 35 Fri 10th June 2011
Today we are leaving early for Northern Drakensberg, it’s about a 5 hour drive & we are staying in the middle of nowhere, a place called The Amphitheatre, it’s surrounded by the Drakensberg mountains which at this moment in time have snow on them, they look so pretty. We headed to reception to book up our room and before we knew it we were taken on a mini tour of the hostel. The tour included a big speech on the available tours that the hostel ran. They were a trek to the summit of one of the mountains, and a day in Lestheto, all sounded pretty good but were out of our budget. We settled into our room for a bit before deciding that we fancied an ice cream. Everything we orded got put onto a tab which got settled up at the end of our stay (this can be pretty dangerous sometimes especially if we are drinking!), on putting our ice creams on the tab the old doris behind the reception desk said she had noticed that we hadnt put our names down for any of their ‘amazing’ tours. She actually got quite shirty about this and said that we were going to be wasting our money going to sun city and safari. ‘Cheerio darlin’, we told her and off to our room we went! The actual hostel is lovely the area surrounding it is so peaceful all you can hear is nature, its very relaxing, so we take advantage & spend time writing our blog in the sunshine which we finally have.
As we are catching up on the blog we get an unexpected phone call. The number isnt recognised so Dan answers. Its WEEKSIE!!!!!! (Dans best buddy) It’s a really nice surprise to hear from him, and actually feels quite weird, as it used to be the other way round when tom was in Australia a few years ago. After catching up for a while we say our goodbyes and hang up. We both chat about how cool it would be if Tom and Hayley could be experiencing this with us. We hope that they have an amazing time diving in Croatia though!
So now its dinner time and on the menu tonight is microwavable pilau rice and chicken korma from a packet! All is going we until halfway though the ‘cooking’ process the gas runs out! We end up having to move our dinner to a different kitchen and in the end lets just say it was ‘edible’.
Blog Day 36 Sat 11th June 2011
After a well-deserved lie in we spend all day here just chilling out & enjoying the sunshine. We cook a lovely meal of beans on toast with bacon for breakfast and it’s a success as the have gas for the whole cooking time! Just as we are finishing breakfast Dan’s dad calls, we spend some time catching up with them and its really good to hear that they are all well and missing us. I think its quite fair to say that we are both a ‘little’ homesick now especially Dan after hearing from Tom yesterday and his family today! We head to the bar area where as it is a Saturday only means one thing, RUGBY!! We pretty much don’t do much else at all today which is great. As we have gas back now we are able to do our own Thai green curry tonight which again is yummy.
