Day 9 Sun May 15th 2011
Well not too much happened today really was going to go out to somewhere called Blouberg strand to get a view of looking back towards Cape town & Table Mountain but the weather is very cloudy today so it's not worth going there. So we wander a shopping Centre & buy ourselves a cell phone. Then we get back & Gerts & he make up a Chicken poike Pot done on the Braai, it is amazing. We will defiantly be Braai-ing when we have our own place one day.
Day 10 Mon May 16th 2011
Pretty much spent today at Wimpy restaurant on Wi-Fi, E-mailing back home & writing for the blog. On Saturday we met Gerts assistant coach Grant. Turns out Grant is a performer and works doing juggling, escapology and magic! Grants father Chris is also a magician and is quite the TV personality over here! We both get invited over to Chris' place this evening to chat and see some of his tricks. He is a really nice guy and performs some good stuff for us. He asks Dan to show him a trick which he does and leaves both Chris and grant baffled!! It went down really well which was great and after about 3 hrs. We leave having made a few more new friends!
Day 11 Tues May 17th 2011
Today we are up early again to go & play 9 holes of golf. It is extremely misty out today & you literally cannot see where your ball lands at all. The course is quite pretty though and isn't very long which is a bonus for Trish. Dan wins the round hands down all the rest of them seem to be making up their own points but still loose. After the game is finished Johan treats us to breakfast which is lovely then we head to run some more errands with Gert before heading into to town to jump on the City Sightseeing bus. We do the Blue route this time which takes us out to a place called Hout Bay. We jump of the bus here but decided not to go out & do the boat cruise so we just head to a nice place to have a beer. The bar is right on the harbor, and we sit there for about half hour watching a few seals chilling in the bay. By the time we jump back onto the bus the mist has come down around the mountain & we are not able to enjoy any more of the view which is a shame. We head back to Johan's house where he insists on Braai-ing a local fish called snoeke. It is lovely a lovely fish but there are far too many bones in it which spoils it. He also does a specialty of fish poike which has every type of fish & shellfish imaginable in it but it unfortunately was just too rich for our palates. Dan said he liked it but I can so tell when he's lying. The face he was pulling was a bit of a giveaway too! Johan's not to offended though which is a relief and he gives Dan a real nice gift set of almost 90% proof alcohol liqueurs, one or which is a chilli blend! We say our goodbyes and head back to the house to pack our bags.
Day 12 Wed May 18th 2011
So the day has finally come where we leave Gerts place! It's been great meeting them and we are so grateful to them for putting us up for just over a week and treating us like part of their family!
Etienne picks us up from Gerts with his mate Jonathan (his buddy over from England) & we head to his house. We pretty much chill out for the afternoon & get ready to Braai in the evening. We meet his little boy & wife who is lovely and then some of their friends start turning up. Beer flows & Jonathan decides to poke tobasco sauce in people's eyes & drop kicks Ettiene in the nuts…real childish but revenge is sweet & he soon gets what's coming to him (one red eye and very sore nuts!). A huge debate kicks off about politics & foreigners, and Jonathan ends up going to bed with a face like a smacked arse. Mainly due to the fact that he came second in this debate. In the morning Ettiene drops us off at Stellenbosch where we are to start our adventure of backpacking on our own.
