It's been a few days now since Ozintro finished. I stayed in Coogee for Monday and Tuesday, but moved into a different room in the hostel, which had it's own kitchenette, bathroom and seating area, so it was like a little flat! I was in a 5 bed room with Kate, Laura, Bethan and Sophie - the last remaining of our Ozintro group - everyone else had moved into the city centre to stay at the YHA. I spent most of mon and tues sorting stuff out and trying to upload all my photos to facebook - which took FOREVER in the ozintro office - and then had a couple of quiet nights hanging around at the hostel.
On wednesday morning myself, Kate and Laura moved out of Surfside in Coogee and into the city. We're staying at the YHA for a couple of days - it is lovely! Considering it's a youth hostel, it's just like a travelodge, the only difference being the dorm rooms and shared bathrooms. It's so much cleaner than Surfside and is much nicer than i expected any hostel to be! On wednesday afternoon i went to Manly beach (on the other side of Sydney) with Laura and her Australian friend Hollie. We met a couple of others there who'd walked from Spit bridge to Manly that morning - it's a 10km walk!! Although apparently it's a nice walk with some cool places along the way, so i'd have liked to have joined them iif it weren't for the fact that i had to move hostels that morning. Manly wasn't that impressive - the beach was quite crowded and i personally prefer Coogee beach.
On Wednesday night, we met up with most of the Ozintro lot because it was their last night in Sydney all together, as most moved on to Melbourne or Adelaide either yesterday or this morning. A few of us stayed at the hostel playing drinking games, and then went to meet the rest at Scubar - the backpacker bar underneath the YHA.
On Thursday morning, myself, Kate, Laura and Rachel Shaw spent the morning doing the RSA (Responsible Service of Alcohol) course. It's a course that you have to do in certain states in Aus if you want to work in a bar. If you don't have it, you can't get bar work, so i decdided i'd rather have it done now so that i have the option. it was boring though, went on for 5 hours and basucally said 'It's illegal to serve drunk people and people under 18' over and over again. Then in the afternoon, me and Kate went up to the pool on the roof of the YHA for a bit, before spending the evening in the cinema room, watching My Big Fat Greek Wedding, with the ozintro girls who didn't leave til this morning.
This morning i got the train to Bondi junction because i had to pick up the sunglasses and glasses I've bought to replace the ones i lost in the sea! i actually like my new ones a lot better than the ones i had, so i'm happpy with having to pay out for more - even though it was stupid to lose them in the first place. I met Lucia in Bondi and we then went to Hyde park (in the middle of Sydney) for a picnic with Bethan and Kate. After that, Kate and I walked to Circular Quay, which is where the opera house and harbour bridge are. We did quite a lot of walking in the end, because we walked all the way back to the YHA afterwards.
It's my last night in Sydney tonight! Tomorrow morning I'm flying to Melbourne with Kate and Laura, and we're staying in St Kilda for 4 nights. Then on Wednesday we fly out to Tassie to start our Oz experience bus trip, and hopefully find some fruit picking work.
Will try to write again in Melbourne, but from now on i think my blogs will be less often and longer, like this one, cos i won't be as busy as i was for the first week. Bye xxx
