It is cold again,.... woke up to light rain on the canvas and a chill in the air.
Today we jumped into the car and drove up to Robe - I found the spot where the Bega ad "robe isn't famous for robes" was filmed and did a quick tour of the town. Robe is a nice place but was very touristy with many more boutiques and cafes. So glad we stayed at Beachport.
After Robe we set off North/East to the Naracoorte Caves National Park. This is an amazing place to visit. World Heritage listed it holds many fossils dating back millions of years. The limestone caves are open to explore and we took the self-guided option of the 'Wet Cave". It was cool and dark inside but the limestone formations were breathtaking.
We couldn't take too long in Naracoorte Caves as we had a duckrace to attend at 4pm back in Beachport. The local Rotary Club annual duckrace fundraiser had everyone in town talking "how many ducks do you have?" "whats the name of yours?". Dazza bought one duck in the race "Moby-duck" and we had to get back in time to see the race.
The race was held just out of town (1km) in the Lake of Sialom which is about 7 times saltier than the ocean. You can swim in it to experience the extra bouyancy but today was WAY too cold. It was really cool to see everyone all around the side of the lake awaiting the release of our rubber duckies. At the end of the race all the kids jumped in to grab as many yellow ducks as possible (pretty sure that was a highlight for the kids) and one kind boy gave Dazza one of the ducks that he had.
Tomorrow we head up the coast further and maybe into the southern end of the Coorong. Here's hoping the sun comes out and warms us up!!!
