After 18hours on the bus (nightbus) again, we savely arrived in San Pedro de Atacama. In the middle of the desert (Atacama), this town is very touristy but we have heard that already before we came here. Thing is, from here we will need to go to Bolivia, any other way would be too complicated. San Pedro is quite alright, very dusty because of the sand but really hot and sunny everyday! We soon agreed that we like it here and now after 5days, we are still here...What we have done so far: the first day we hired a bike and cycled to Valle de la Luna - beautiful national reserve with a lot of rocks and sand dunes. I found the trip very exhausting that day, I think it was because of the alititude. San Pedro is on 2.500m and we must have been above that...It was really worth it although we did not get to see the sunset from there, the views were still amazing. On the way back we met an Italian who had a flat tie (? wheel on the bike I mean) and we helped him out a few kilometres. He did not even thank us!! The day after we had another of our relaxing days although Lisi went sandboarding in the afternoon. She was very lucky because there were no people and so she had a privat "lesson". With the same guy we did a tour to the El Tatio Geysers the next morning, wake up time was 4am! Every minute of this tour was worth it though. The geysers are about 2h away on 4.000m - this time there were no problems with the altitude. They are only active before and during sunrise and it was great up there! Victor, our guide, he speaks very good english and explained us everything about the geysers, the landscape, the country. As we had a "privat" tour with him as well, he drove us to place where we found natural hot springs. Prepared as we are, we had our bikinis with us and at 8am we were sitting in there having a hot bath for about 1h or so....no need to mention that this was absolut fantastic! In the early hours of that morning it was freezing cold but as soon as the sun came out it got nice and warm, 8am was a good time to do that. On the way back to San Pedro we drove through a little village in the mountains (about 20people live there) and we had some Lama Kebap which was really good and some special tea (forgot the name) which helps the altitude sickness and cleans your stomach. By midday we were back and needed the whole afternoon to relax...Because of the altitude it is one day me, one Lisi who feels a bit strange and we both can not sleep well at night either. Not that that will of interest for you but just to let you know that the altitude really does make a difference ;-) We also did another bike tour were we went to a nice valley with a river running through and on the way there we visited some inca ruins. Apart from all these things we discovered our favourite restaurant (food, food, food) but funny enough, I can not even remember when I had my last glass of wine...Mojitos are a good alternative though!! :-)
So, that is it for the moment - we are still in San Pedro for another few days, so the next update will follow!! Hope you are all well?! I´ve heard that London gets quite cold now-winter is coming aye? Does not bother us because we enjoy the warmth here in the north of Chile....
