Well we were stuck with a dilemma. A cyclone was due to hit Fiji, some flights had been delayed, others cancelled. We waited right until the day we were supposed to leave and after hearing that our flight was delayed by 7 hours, the tour company our island hopping pass was through had closed for the next few days and would be unreachable, topped off by people being killed we decided we weren't going to go. We were getting contradicting advise from people, some saying that the mainland would be ok others saying it wouldn't. But as we were supposed to be traveling through the islands we decided that we wouldn't take the risk. Even if it wasn't as bad as people were saying, we didn't think now was the right time to be going on holiday there when many peoples lives may have been destroyed by the 200kph winds.
So new plan… hmmm. We sat on the internet and had a look at cheap flights somewhere, but with our hopes of Bali or Vietnam being shattered by the price we had two options, Sydney or the Gold Coast. It was 2.05pm and there was a flight leaving for the Gold Coast at 5pm, so 2 hours before the flight to check in and 45 minutes to the airport gives us...10 minutes, hmmm. It was clearly the alcohol in our system that helped with the decision because we booked it then ran through the hostel and grabbed our stuff before jumping in a taxi. It was only when we were sat in the car that we realised what we´d done, random but good!
Not much to say about the Gold Coast really. We stopped off in duty free and collected some vodka, crashed with Harley because Becca wasn't very well and had a few nights out. We bought some party blowers for St Paddy´s Day that kept us all entertained… and awake! We have videos of Harley, Philly and Dani (Sam escaped) being woken by these horns being blown in their ears, brilliant!
