Antelope Canyon & Horse Shoe Bend
Antelope Canyon Tour
Today we went on a photo tour of Antelope Canyon in Page.
The photo tour is a little more expensive then the regular tours but you get a closed 4 wheel drive instead of an open one. Which is more comfortable and you eat a lot less dirt. Plus the guide makes sure you get some pics of empty rooms in the canyon and got a little extra time to shoot. When we got there and saw how many tourist were cramped in that narrow canyon it is definitely worth the extra money.
What a nutter
The tour started in de centre of Page at a closed down gas station. We were treated to a traditional hoop dance by an native American dressed in a traditional outfit and one of the guides played a drum and sang during the dance. It was a little odd due to the scenery but entertaining. After that our names were called out and a vehicle was assigned to us. The guide would accompany us a short while later.
Our guide was Blaine. He introduced himself by running and screaming out of the building, where we payed for the tour, and diving on to the hood of his car. Then he checked names and greeted us in Dutch. There was also a Japanese man in our group who was greeted in Japanese that even we could understand. But the guy responded with "Sorry I don't speak Japanese" :D
Cramped in Antelope Canyon
After a bumpy and dusty ride we finally made it to the Canyon. Blaine told us he was one of the three Blaines that were working as guides. So in the Canyon he would refer to us as his kids. :D We would start at the end of the Canyon because it was a busy day with tours and we could get some empty rooms and with a little luck some rays of sunlight. But since it was cloudy there wouldn't be that many rays of light entering the Canyon. But we caught one yay! But even without the rays of light the Cayon was magnificent! Before we knew it we had to get back. I so wanna go back there and shoot some more!
Horse Shoe Bending Knees
After our tour we decided to go to Horse Shoe Bend near the hotel we stayed in. It's a very steep canyon where the Colorado river made a horse shoe shaped carving in the rocks. It was so pretty but since I'm not that courageous when it comes to heights I didn't get far enough to the edge to shoot the whole bend. Richard was courages enough and shot some awesome pictures that will be up on Flickr.com to view.
