After a good but sleepless 9 hour flight we arrived in Sydney and hopped on the train into the city. We checked into the hostel, dropped the bags off and headed straight out. Unfortunately after all of that it was still only 8am (5am HK time) and none of us had slept a wink. We were soon perked up by the view of Harbour Bridge and Sydney Opera House (although the sheer expense of Sydney was a shock to wake anyone up - £3 for a bottle of water). After some happy snapping with the camera we went for some food and to catch the start of the Ashes.
After a third ball wicket and a poor England start we were disheartened and exhausted so went for a sleep in the shade in the botanical gardens. I had a refreshing, undisturbed sleep and a truckers arm to prove it where the sun caught me out as it moved round. So Danny Monotan Arm and co went for a stroll back up towards the hostel popping into any cafes on the way for a drink and some cricket coverage. We spent the evening trying to keep going as long as possible before the fatigue caught up with us again, chatting with some other backpackers and getting info on car hire etc. before heading to bed.
