So, I leave Ko Samui and head off on what was to be a 24hour bus trip to KL. I arrive pretty shattered at 5am and plonk myself in a McD's for a breakfast, coffee and a quick flick through the bible (lonely planet) in search of somewhere to sleep. I settle on the Red Dragon hotel which is in central china town and catch a few hours sleep. By the time I wake, shower and head out I feel like I have entered a new world. The place is loud, bright with colour and busy with people and traffic. You can tell you have walked into a major city and it's a nice change from the beach life. Armed with my map I go on a wonder to find my bearings, shortly after I stumble across a market type restaurant packed with all sorts of food. I sit down and ask the chef for a bowl of his best dish. 2 mins later i'm given this huge bowl of chicken noodle curry (curry lascar). It was one of the best meals I've have had so far.Next I take a walk through the main market place and if I wasn't traveling I would be leaving with suitcases full of stuff. They sell everything from bags to dvd's, crafts - clothes. I quickly told myself no and sat down for a drink while I planned the sites I was going to visit. A quick ride on the well maintained and easy to navigate underground and I arrive in KLCC, the main shopping mall that is also beneath the Petronas towers. Six floors of wall to wall shops and I feel like I have died and gone to retail heaven. I take a walk around all floors, which takes a while… pop outside to get my snaps of the towers and decide on catching the 6pm James Bond movie. I head back on the tube and decide to get off a few stop earlier to walk back to china town where I found a small bar to think about my next step. After a few G&T's and talking to a couple of crazy Scotts who a cycling around the world and pitching there tent where possible I head in search of the next culinary delight. This ended up as a Chinese style chicken and rice from a small stall with a cabinet full of toads and crabs… nice one.The next day I decided to walk to the telecoms tower where you can take the lift to the 360 degree viewing tower to see the city in its full glory. Feeling a little freaked about the lift as I remember the Rockefeller centre one and nearly passing out I made my way to the top and the views were amazing, better than the Petronas view would have been so I think a good decision. After walking back I decided to treat myself to a little honestly a little retail therapy. I headed to another area of KL called times sq and found yet another huge mall. I popped into a salon and got my nails down and somehow managed to agree to a chemical hair straightening treatment. 5 hours later I leave with a straight barnet and the information that it will be like this for 6 months. Great no more traveling with frizzy hair! This is what happens when females are deprived of the essential tools needed in life..(hair dryer and irons). I head back into town and pop in to Nando's for some food. I know that's cheating but I have really limited myself to western food so I thought I would continue my day of treats. The next day I grab a bus from the main station to Melaka further south in Malaysia as I hear you can take a ferry over to Sumatra. The trip was easy and comfortable and over in a couple of hours. Once I arrive at the bus station I grab a taxi to take me to a small hotel in the main town. The rooms were clean and comfy and I again head out in search of some grub. It seems to be one of the best things about traveling, trying all the local food. I find a small place and have a large bowl of sea food noodle soup yum… will be having that again. After a quick wonder around I head back to the hotel for a night in with the TV and some rest. The next day I wake early and venture into the old town, popping into a travel agent to book my ferry ticket for the next day and a bit more site seeing. I settle into this open air market with food stall selling every thing from fried chicken to sushi, finding it hard to make a decision as you know me and food I settle for sushi (something I have missed and not had since leaving work in London). By now its getting late and as my hotel is a little off the main street with no light I head back with my torch in hand as you can never be too careful.Tomorrow I head to IndonesiaShenel
