Day 36 Wed 13th
We woke up late so missed breakfast and seeing the seals as the boat came back to the port. I did manage to get up in time to be on the deck when the boat went past some amazing waterfalls. We were back on the coach by 9am and driving towards Lake Ohau which would be our last night on the tour. We arrived at the Lake Ohau Lodge quite late and had to go for dinner straight away. Had another really ncie home cooked meal, we are missing those desperately! We went for a drink at the bar and met the mountain ranger who offered to take a few of us up the mountain. We all piled into his truck, plus his gorgeous dog Maddock, and headed slowly up the mountain. The roads were so windy and the ride wasn't exactly smooth, sheep kept jumping in front of the truck. We got to the top which he told us was about 6,000 feet up and the views were stunning. You could see for miles and I took loads of photos. In the winter the whole thing is usually covered with metres of snow and apparently it's a popular skiing resort. The drive down wasn't too bad, again sheep and rabbits kept darting in front of the truck. It was nice to do something that wasn't on the tour's itinerary!
