Day 56- Tues 4th We were up and out of our hostel by 7am today to get the Oz Experience bus to the Blue Mountains. We had a nice driver who was also our tour guide. He seemed to be very knowledgeable especially about aboriginal history. Our first stop was at a camping site/clearing that was in the national park. We saw grey kangaroos grazing and it was nice to see them in their natural habitat. Our next stop was to a small town nearby to get breakfast and then it was onto the Wentworth Falls. We did a 2 hour trek through the rainforests and mountains taking some amazing pictures of the scenery and the waterfalls. We would stop every so often in the over hangs whilst our guide told us stories about how the aboriginies used the environment for their different needs. We had a nice picnic before driving to Echo Falls where we saw the 'three sisters'. These were three rocks that had an aboriginal meaning. We were able to take a quick walk to the first sister before heading off for our last part of the trip which was the thousand steps. The thousand steps were downhill thankfully and it wound us around the mountains past a few more waterfalls. At the bottom we got on the scenic railway which went almost vertically up to the top. It was a little scary! At the top there were cable cars which you could take across the valleys, a shop and a restaurant. The bus dropped us right on the doorstep of the YHA hostel in Katoomba which we would be staying overnight in. The hostel was amazing, it was huge and so clean. There were huge rooms to lounge around in and the kitchen was really well equipped and tidy. We made dinner in the hostel and spent the night on the sofas and playing our favourite game..scrabble. Day 57- Wed 5th We checked out of the YHA but put our bags in storage for the day. After making breakfast in the kitchen we went for a little walk around the town of Katoomba. There was not a great deal there except for coffee shops, antique shops and book stores. It was a quaint little town and we stopped in a nice old fashioned coffee house for tea and scones (although i did have a hot chocolate!) We spent the rest of the day just relaxing in the huge lounge rooms at the YHA before our bus came to pick us up to take us back to Sydney. We had a different driver who seemed to be very weird and obsessed with nature. We checked back into Home hostel and had our own room this time. We were so tired that we didnt even have dinner and just went to bed.
