Dan and Lu's Travels
Spent the day in Nashville. We got caught in a torrential rainstorm, so we sheltered in a doorway at the back of the library for about 20 minutes. It seemed to be slowing down so we thought we'd make a run for it but as soon as we stepped out it got worse, there was a river of water running down the hill and we were sliding down in our flip flops! then as suddenly as it had started it stopped. the clouds left and the sky was crystal clear and bright blue. So we got stared at for the next hour as everyone else had been sheltering and we were soaked!
Went to Tootsie's Wild Orchid Lounge, which is pretty legendary for hosting big names and has framed photos of music stars plastered over the walls.
Went to Robert's again, where we encountered an old hippy woman who told me she'd give me a joint if I'd stop doing my homework! (I was writing the journal!) She came and talked to us and was telling us about how she was in London in the '60s and hitchhiked around Europe, and that she was at Woodstock. She whooped and hollered lots and seemed to know everyone. She also told dan that he'd be hers if she was 30 years younger!
Went to a few more bars and saw lots of bands. Then back to roberts where we met a couple called Jim and Betty and some of their friends. Jim had travelled a lot in Europe and had been to York. (It's rare you meet an American who has been to anywhere in England apart from London). They were interested in our trip and they're just getting into couchsurfing (lending your spare room or couch to people passing through your town - we've met quite a few people who are doing that) So we stayed at theirs which was so much nicer than the Executive Inn!
