Dan and Lu's Travels
My Auntry Beryl came over on Monday to catch up and meet Dan,while Uncle Mikel took Chris to have his cast off his leg (accidentduring paratrooper training).
Today Uncle Mikel took Dan and I to see someof Arizona. We drove north through the desert to a place called Jerome, after stopping in Cottonwood for lunch. Jerome is an old mining town high up in the hills (6000 ft above sea level). It's a cute little place that used to be called the wickedest place in America, as it was full of 'pleasure houses'. Now it's a bit of an artist colony and sells gorgeous jewellery. Went nto a fabulous shop - I could have stayed there all day - called The House of Joy. It used to be a brothel then a restaurant, and is now a boutique selling Americana, but really interesting cool stuff like metal brothel tokens ("Good For All Night"!) and pin badges fromthe 50s, 60s and 70s.
We walked around town, but not too much as it was 110 degrees!
Back in the car we drove to gorgeous Sedona, which is set against huge red rcks. Its what you think of when you think of Arizona. Beautiful scenery. We carried on and drove through Oak Creek Canyon, first along the creek and then up the winding road through pine trees and to 7000 ft, where the views were breathtaking. I think that's one my favourite 'drives' we've done.
Then back to Phoenix; we'd covered 375 miles since 10am!
Went for food and drink with Chris and Mary on ASU campus tonight.
