Today we had a day trip to Phi Phi island. The first stop being where they filmed The Beach. We were so excited to see it but unfortunately so were 2000 other people. It was just as beautiful as the movie but spoilt by the masses of tourist. Funny how a movie about getting away from the usual tourist traps has created such a monster culminating in everything it stood against. Still it was high on the list of must do's and was one of the most amazing beaches you could ever hope to see.
We ran into the guy who I was sitting next to on the flight to Phuket. He said 4 of his friends had been struck down with the same sickness as us. They went to a doctor and it seems that a lot of the island had been struck down by a nasty bug. The doc had apparently never seen anything like it on this level. They had shots (antibiotics maybe) and felt great the next day. Wish we had done that. We still feel a bit queasy and don't have much of an appetite except fruit.
The rest of the day we went to an island, with 2000 other people, to feed monkeys. We also stopped in a cove where they filmed a scene from "Man with the golden gun". Then on for a snorkel and then a relax on a beautiful beach. Finally back to our hotel to pack before up at 5am to catch a flight back to KL. Doesn't matter where in the world you are, that time bloody hurts.
