Introduction
Location: The island of Oahu
The Hawaiian chain consists of eight islands (Hawaii, Maui, Oahu, Kahoolawe, Lani, Molokai, Kauai, and Niihau). Honolulu, the States capital, resided on the island of Oahu. This chain of islands is the only USA state that is in Oceania. The lovely island of Oahu is where I was born and raised.
History:
British explorer Captain James Cook was the first foreigner to visit the Hawaiian islands back in 1778. Each island was ruled by a different Ali'i or chief, but King Kamehameha the First united all eight islands making them one. He also flew a British flag throughout his kingdom, which was given as a token of their friendship by King George III. Which was then incorporated with the modern Hawaiian flag. It has the Union Jack in the corner and eight horizontal red, white, and blue stripes to represent the islands and its connection to the US. Hawaii became the 50th state in 1959.
Weather:
Hawaii maintains mild temperatures with moderate humidity. Year-round the temperatures of the island range between 70 degrees Fahrenheit and 85 degrees Fahrenheit, on a normal day. In the summers the temperature can reach up to above 90 degrees Fahrenheit. The hottest month in Hawaii is August with an average of high of 87 degrees F and a low of 76 degrees F. The coldest month in Hawaii is December with an average of 79 degrees F high and 67 degrees F low. Rainfall varies within the months, also on what side of the island you are on. The leeward (west) side is drier than the windward (east) side of the island. Hawaii is overall sunny year-round.
Tourism:
Hawaii is a major international destination, people from all around the world travel near and far to make it to "Paradise". Greeted by the Aloha spirit as soon as guests step off the plane, Hawaii is known for its good energy and relaxation. There are many things to do on the island. Countless hikes to go on to be one with Nature and explore the mysteries of the island. Many beaches for snorkeling, surfing, body boarding, and just for having fun in the sun. Or you could just lay out a towel and tan in the sun, enjoying the Hawaiian breeze. At night there are many Luaus around the island to get an authentic Hawaiian experience. There are many different museums and centers for a more educational experience. For the adrenaline junkies, there are many places to zipline, skydive, rock climb, and shark cages. With Hawaii's diverse population there are many different foods to try. On your way to the beach without a doubt, you will come upon a food truck or a pop-up tent of locals selling local home-made food on the side of the road. The majority of Hawaii's tourists come from southeast Asian. On average Hawaii has more than 10 million visitors per year. About 21% of Hawaii's economy comes from tourism.
