Transportation:
~ Air: The main way to get to the Hawaiian islands is by Airplane. Being a destination in the middle of the pacific ocean, it is a mid-way point for many flight layovers, so even if your destination was not exactly Hawaii itself, you could be making a pit stop at the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport on the island of Oahu. Most mainstream airlines fly to Hawaii, especially Hawaiian airlines. If you are flying in from the United States there are United flights, Delta, American Airlines, Alaska Airlines, Mokulele Airlines. But being a destination of the world many foreign airlines fly to Hawaii as well, such as Korean Air, Qantas, Jetstar, Air China, Asiana Airlines, Philippines Airlines, Japan Airlines, and many more.
~ Water: Another way to get to this beautiful island is by water. We have a couple of cruise lines that stop on Oahu. There a handful of ports on the island, one being the Honolulu Harbor, also known as Kulolia and Ke Awa O Kou. This harbor is the main harbor for shipments going to and from the Hawaiian islands. Kewalo Basin is another port but normally used as a tourist destination for fishing or attractions such as a pirate ship. The Royal Caribian "Radiance of the Sea" makes a stop on Oahu, which averages out from $800-$2000 per person for a 7-day cruise.
In order to get around the island, I suggest renting a car for the most optimized freedom. There are many rental car places on the island, but two of the highly rated are Alamo and Enterprise Rent-A-Car. Both places are conveniently located very close to the airport, they also provide a free shuttle from the airport to the rental car place. It will only take you about one hour to drive from one end of the island to the opposite end. Oahu has an area of 596.7 sq mi (1,545 km^2), which is not too big when coming from a place that sometimes takes four hours to drive to the next town over. But if a rental car is not in your budget, understandably so, there are many other modes of transportation to consider. Public transportation, also know as DaBus, has stops all over the island. You could purchase a $5.50 all-day pass, or go to your local 7Eleven to buy a bus pass, of course, depending on how long you plan on staying. Another popular way people get around nowadays is by Uber or Lyft. If you are planning on spending the day in Waikiki, there are Biki stations all over the place. A curbside bike rental station, a bike simply costs $3.50 per 30 minutes and when finished with the bike ride you can drop it off at the nearest Biki station. Or a popular way for a tourist to tour the island is by the trolley. It is an open shuttle ride from place to place, you play when you first hop on or it can come as a package deal with your travel packages.
